You Can’t Find Yourself With the Same Tools You Used to Heal

They say you can’t heal in the same environment that made you sick.
So by that same logic… wouldn’t it make sense that you can’t figure out who the f*ck you are with the same tools you used to heal?
Please don’t misunderstand me.
I still do my deep breathwork every month. I still go to therapy for as few months a year. I still invest in coaches and deep inner work.
I love this stuff.
Because I’m a deep-feeling Scorpio moon- give me all the trenches and all the depth.
Because I work in the personal development and healing industry and staying informed (on myself and what modalities are out there) matters to me.
And because maintenance is important. You don't go to the dentist once a year (or 2 if youre a slacker like me🙋♀️) and not brush your teeth in between.
Thats right, I went there.
If we're still discovering who we are, then theres no pressure to have to take it out THERE yet! And so we stay playing small.
And I think a lot of people (myself included) have gotten stuck in the constantly-healing-loop (trap).
When Healing Starts Becoming A Loop
Here’s what I mean.
The late-night existential questioning about what you even want to be doing with your life despite doing the work?
The sitting down to create new goals, only to realize the things on your journal page are recycled “shoulds” from 2018?
The fact that the first thought after a hiccup in life is ‘i gotta work this out with seth’ (your therapist, hello)?
….
Sound familiar?
You’re not stuck in these loops because you lack passion, inspiration, or the knowledge of what you want. EVEN if it feels like exactly that.
You’re not hitting your head against the wall trying to figure yourself out because you’re broken.
And feeling lost in your identity is not proof that your trauma ruined you in some irreversible way.
Honestly?
Maybe you’re just wildly different now than the version of you who started the healing journey.
Because what once was a growth edge, can become a comfort zone.

The Version Of You That Started Healing Might Not Be You Anymore
Five years ago, maybe success meant being impressive.
Maybe safety meant being liked.
Maybe purpose meant proving something (to yourself, your dad, your crush, idc)
Maybe your goals were built around survival, validation, performance, or who you thought you should become in order to finally feel enough.
But healing changes people.
Real healing changes your nervous system.
Your relationships. Your tolerance for misalignment. Your capacity for honesty. Your desires.
Which means the life that once made sense to you might not fit anymore.
These questions you’re sitting in trying to answer with more therapy are questions of showing up, not questions to be answered with the mind.
And that can feel deeply destabilizing before it feels freeing.
Because there’s a weird stage of self discovery that happens after healing where your old identity starts dissolving… but your authentic one hasn’t fully solidified yet.
That in-between space can make you feel ungrounded, directionless, or disconnected from yourself.
But it might actually be a sign that you’re getting closer.
Healing Isn’t The Same Thing As Embodiment
Which is why I know that where you’re going is not about needing to heal more.
It’s about taking the time to meet the version of you that exists on the other side of all that deep inner work.
Because once you know that version?
You stop moving through life as a past version of yourself that feels like a stranger.
You stop making decisions from old conditioning.
You stop chasing goals that don’t even belong to you anymore.
You start moving with more coherence: between your thoughts, your body, your desires, and your actions.
And that kind of self trust is worth more than gold.
A Practical Place To Start If You Feel Lost In Who You Are
If you’re in this season right now, here’s something simple I want you to try:
Instead of asking: “Who tf even am I?”
Try asking: “Who do I expect that I’ll become on the other side of healing?”
THATS your bridge. THATS where your action starts. And it can absolutely start small.
Then notice:
what energizes you lately
what drains you instantly
what conversations make you feel more alive
what parts of yourself only appear in private
(im hinting at energy work here)

Your identity is usually revealed in patterns long before it’s revealed in language.
And sometimes self discovery isn’t about “finding yourself.”
Sometimes it’s about finally doing the things that the healed version of you would do.

Disclaimer: this is built on the premise that healing has no arrival point yet that we use it as a crutch. That is built from an assumption - that you've been doing healing work for years and that most of your deep work and hard years are complete. What im speaking to here is the creation of the healing comfort zone. We find solace in the safety of healing and the privacy of processing with ourselves and our therapists - and thats a very important stage - and one you cannot simply skip over. When it is time to integrate and move back into life, th\is tender version of us becomes bombarded with the worlde again, no more safe comfy cocoon of healing. And that is where integration and embodiment tools are so pertinent. You're no longer the sweet caterpillar that turned into goo. Your wings are bursting at the cocoon's edges and you cannot keep hiding in there because it was comfy. Go fly.
